Aleko Hut sits at 1,840 meters on Vitosha Mountain near Sofia, Bulgaria, in the Maslovitsa area at the base of Malak Rezen peak. Built from 1924-1932 and opened in 1934, it is one of Bulgaria’s oldest huts. Aleko Hut is accessible year-round via multiple routes from Sofia, primarily by car or hiking trails.
By Car
Drive from Sofia via Boyana or Dragalevtsi roads to the Aleko area (~30-45 minutes), with free parking available at the hut. In winter, chains may be required for snowy roads.
Hiking Routes
Popular trails start from Boyana Church (3-4 hours, red-marked), Dragalevtsi Monastery (2-3 hours), or Simeonovo gondola lift (1-2 hours to hut). All paths are well-marked and lead to the hut as a base for Cherni Vrah summit.
