Rhodope Mountains (Родопи) form Bulgaria’s largest range, covering 14,735 km² (83% in Bulgaria)—a vast massif of deep valleys, coniferous forests, and 15 UNESCO-protected reserve.
Spanning 240km east-west, the Western Rhodopes reach 2,925m at Golyam Perelik with alpine ridges, while Eastern Rhodopes average 329m of rolling hills and volcanic rock formations. Known as Orpheus’ mythical home, they feature the Balkans’ largest coniferous woods, karst caves, and Thracian heritage sites—mild climate with Mediterranean influences supports year-round hut tourism.
